Virus Protection

Some viruses are stronger than others. When faced with an epidemic, you can take the following precautions and use natural self-protection. Essential oils come from plants where their purpose is to protect the plant from invaders. Hence, they have anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and antiseptic properties for human use. Below is my anti-viral protection regimen:

I carry a DIY  inhaler and use it every hour or so when I’m out in the world. You can purchase DIY inhaler kits from Amazon and get overnight delivery. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=inhalers+for+essential+oils&crid=UOR80W1A8M45&sprefix=inhalers%2Caps%2C219&ref=nb_sb_ss_sc_3_8

Directions:  Use 1 teaspoon of a carrier oil and add 4 drops tea tree, 4 drops cinnamon leaf, 4 drops of eucalyptus and 4 drops of red thyme essential oils in a small cup or container. Add the cotton wick from the  inhaler kit and soak for 10-15 minutes moving it around in the in mixture until it has fully absorbed. (Use a toothpick  to move it around) When the wick is soaked, take off the bottom at the bottom of the tube, place the wick in the tube and snap the bottom back on. Screw on the cover and take with you. Inhale every hour or so as you tolerate the aromas to keep your nasal passages germ free. Do not share this inhaler with others. Make them their own. Latex or nitrile gloves are important to wear if you are in public places. They can be purchased online or at your local drug store or discount store. Wear them, wash them under soap and water frequently. Forget how they look and stay safe.

Create a DIY hand sanitizer. Use 1 oz vegetable glycerin or aloe vera gel and add 2 drops of lemon, 2 drops of tea tree and 2 drops of lavender essential oils. Mix well, then put into a squeezable tube and take with you. Use frequently on your hands to sanitizer them and keep them germ free. The commercial hand sanitizers can dry your skin due to the alcohol content. Make your own and keep the germs away without damaging and drying your skin. (I find empty containers online or buy a OTC version hand sanitizer, remove the contents and add my own recipe. I hang it on my purse strap and have it convenient at all times.

Keep a mask handy for wearing on public transportation or in public places where virus germs can be transmitted through coughing, sneezing or touching common handrails, shopping carts, doorknobs, elevator buttons or things the public has access to. I drop two or three drops of eucalyptus, tea tree or cinnamon leaf on the inside of the mask for protection against airborne viruses. The mask should fit your face.

During the time of contagion or outbreak avoid shaking hands. I put my hands together at my chest in the form of a greeting and slightly bow (Asian style) and tell them, “Please consider this as shaking your hand and greeting you.” It’s a polite gesture and one that honors another human being. They may follow your lead to remains safer during outbreaks.

Remember, this time will pass but you can keep yourself as protected as possible using essential oils safely while the virus is active in the community.
